OUR STORY

Forging a Path

BMC's founder, Ian, wanted to create an entirely British built high quality range of bladed tools. Something that would be unique in the modern world of mass-produced, built-to-fail consumer products.

Despite our passion being Machetes (this generic term encompasses all long blades including Goloks, Parangs, Latin Machetes, Cleavers, Choppers, Bolos, Natas, Seax, Pangas, Da Dao, Ginunting and Talbons!) we are also keen to promote smaller blades to accompany the avid woodsman. In 2024 we plan to release our first Neck Knife and a 6" Utility Knife.

A BMC Machete is a high quality instrument designed and built to last a lifetime. The best materials are used to suit the nature of the tools future life. High quality steel, heat treated to withstand intense forestry workloads, 3D CNC handles, designed to fit like a glove, ensure safety whilst being easily replaceable in case of damage or the wish to customise.

The humble machete is a tool that should be appreciated for its versatility and simplicity. Being:

Lighter and more nimble than an axe.
More versatile than a hatchet.
More durable and powerful than a knife.
Faster than a pair of secateurs.
Easier to sharpen than a saw.

A good Machete can replace all of these tools.

When designing each new blade, there are many, many considerations that feed into the design. The main ones include:

Ability to sharpen in the field.
Grip in changeable conditions.
Comfort and safety for the user.
Balance and blade weight. Not always where you'd want it for a 6" kitchen knife.
Toughness.
Deployability / Ease of use /
Type of grind geometry for the blades intended purpose.
Material combinations, longevity and performance.

Our small team at British Machete Co design, test and produce British Machetes in the UK. The steel is carefully chosen to offer great performance matching each blade patterns intended use profile.

Final assembly, blade honing, QC and packaging is performed in the Garden of England - Kent. High quality yet attainable blades for the discerning blade enthusiast.

We want to perfect the Machete. That is a fundamental goal of our business.

Our blades are Outdoor Tools. They are for those who understand the benefits of a good machete and enjoy using one.
